Sited on a small flat hill between the Gouet and Gouedic rivers at 2 miles from the ocean, you can access St Brieuc from the 2 viaducts that deserve the main access to this pink Granite City. Partially destroyed during the Second World War, St Brieuc kept its cathedral and its half-timbered houses in the old quarter…
To See and visit:
- Point du roselier: Headland into the ocean where you have a panoramic view between the Emerald coast to the East to the Pink granite Coast to the West. Nice promenade following the path along this headland.
- St Etienne Cathedral is located in the heart of St Brieuc. Known for its severity appearance with those 2 massive towers, the cathedral holds the Tomb of St Guillaume who died in 1234, a very nice stainglass window from the 15th century and a major 'chemin de croix' (the way of the cross) sculpted into 16 pieces of granite.
- Place du Martray is featuring pretty wood-paneled house from the 15th and 16th centuries - check out the 'house of the dukes of Brittany' in Rue Fardel and also rue du Gouet the houses on number 16 and 22.
- Mont Aubey promenade: nice park with a panoramic view on the Gouet valley, the Legue Harbor and St Brieuc Bay.
- St Quay Portrieux: the trendy beaches of St Brieuc with fashion stores, long promenade along the white sand beaches.
