An extraordinary place where the time just stopped in the 18th century. Locronan was a rich city very active that made it wealth with the fabrication on the sailcloth. Entirely protected and restored to the 18th century period, Locronan is often used as medieval scenes for movies. No cars are allowed into the heart of this village.
To See and visit:
St Ronan's church and Penity chapel : the two monuments are linked together on the famous central square of Locronan. The 2 monuments were renovated recently by the elite of architecture in France. Very rich and elegant furniture inside the church (that communicate with the chapel) that shows the power of the church in this area. The tromenies (summer pilgrimage in Locronan) are a major attraction in the area. You will also find the tomb of St Ronan in the chapel.
- The Church Square : listed as historical site in the beginning of the 20th century, this square is surrounded with magnificent granite houses that hold today handcrafts stores, artists galleries and some little typical restaurant and hotels.
The ND de Bonne Nouvelle Chapel : go down the Rue Moal with pretty little granite houses with 3 feet doors, thatched roofs and baskets of geranium. In the middle of the street going down the hill, make a left to the ND de bonne nouvelle : Little chapel with amazing light coming from the stained-glass and also a fountain on the back with a public washing place in granite.
