Once a pretty active fisherman harbor, Concarneau is also known for its beaches and its surrounded wall old city inspired by Vauban. A must see city !
To See and visit:
- The enclosed town : Built on an island of 1000 feet long and 300 feet wide, Concarneau Vieille ville is linked to the rest of the city from 2 small granite bridges. Surrounded by thick military ramparts built in the 14th and 17th centuries, Concarneau was an invincible city for centuries. Inside the city, numerous artist have art galleries and small stores. When you climb to the top of the ramparts, you have a nice panoramic view on the marina and the harbor. You can also take the boat from there to go to the different islands in the area.. On the summer, actors play outside in an open sky amphitheater.
- The Fishing Museum : very important museum featuring all the techniques of fishing from the ancient time to the last modern techniques used in the fishing boats today. You can also visit some fisherman boat and realize what the life a fisherman could be when you know that he can spend half the year away from his country and family…
- Quai de la Croix : Perfect spot to visit the harbor. Also available for visit, the marinarium with the old fish market. To see a real active fish market, go to le Guilvinec..
